FORTINO GENOVESE

This fort was built in 1586 by the Republic of Genoa, with the aim of protecting Albenga from the barbarian raids, but also, the chronicles, better to keep it under control. The building has a square base with guard posts on the four sides and was built directly on the beach. Today the line of the sea is about two hundred meters distant because of the alluvional deposits, which occurred over the centuries, by the river Centa. The terrace has a good view on another part of the history of Albenga, tied to Napoleon. From here you can see that in fact it was the line of defense of his army along the inland to Ormea. The City of Albenga had it definitively in 2006 and in less than seven years did restoration works. It has a multimedia museum on the island of Gallinara, a lounge bar and promotes cultural activities of various kinds. Perhaps the restoration could have been a bit 'more consistent with the original style but undoubtedly this is a fine example for recovery ... some of the forts of Genoa ... and now more than a web surfer will think, bitterly, at some Fort Begato ...
